According to the Hindu calendar, this fast of Shivaratri is known as monthly Shivaratri on Chaturdashi Tithi during Krishna Paksha. Shivaratri is the great festival of the convergence of Shiva and Shakti. Monthly means 'Maha or month' and Shivaratri means 'Lord Shiva's night'. According to Indian mythology, Lord Shiva appeared as Linga at the midnight of Maha Shivaratri. Shiva Linga was first worshiped by Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma. This day is celebrated every month while Mahashivaratri falls once a year. Fasting of the monthly Shivaratri helps in achieving desired wishes.
